SQL Database Administrator
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator to manage, optimize, and secure our clients' SQL Server and cloud-based database environments from our Bangalore office. You will play a critical role in ensuring database performance, availability, and integrity while supporting data migration, modernization, and analytics initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, manage, and maintain SQL Server instances (2016-2022) on-premises and in cloud environments (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, EC2)
Perform database backups, restores, replication, log shipping, and disaster recovery planning
Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize queries, indexes, and execution plans
Implement and maintain database security policies, access controls, and compliance standards (SOX, HIPAA, GDPR)
Plan and execute database migrations from on-premises to cloud (AWS/Azure) with minimal downtime
Automate routine DBA tasks using T-SQL, PowerShell, and AWS/Azure automation tools
Collaborate with development, data engineering, and DevOps teams to support application releases and CI/CD pipelines
Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents; participate in on-call rotations
Maintain documentation for database architecture, configurations, and operational procedures
Evaluate and recommend new database technologies, tools, and best practices
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
4+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator
Strong expertise in T-SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and SSIS/SSRS
Experience with cloud database services: AWS RDS (SQL Server, Aurora), Azure SQL Database, or Azure SQL Managed Instance
Proficiency in database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies
Knowledge of high availability solutions: Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, database mirroring
Experience with backup/recovery strategies and disaster recovery planning
Familiarity with PowerShell scripting and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
Understanding of data security, encryption, and compliance requirements
AWS Certified Database - Specialty or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate is a plus
Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB) is a plus
